CEO and Co-Found
Artisst Coleman is the CEO of Co-Founder, an organization dedicated to supporting women impacted by the justice system and empowering single mothers through advocacy, mentorship, and community support. Her passion for this work is deeply personal and rooted in her own life experience.
As the daughter of a mother impacted by incarceration, Artisst understands firsthand how the justice system affects entire families, not just the individual serving the sentence. She often says that when the justice system sentenced her mother, it felt like it sentenced her too. During her mother’s incarceration, the phone calls, stories, and emotional experiences she shared opened Artisst’s eyes to the struggles faced by incarcerated women and their children. Those moments planted the seed for a greater purpose.
Artisst also became a mother before fully having the opportunity to experience being mothered herself, due to her own mother’s incarceration. This experience shaped her compassion and strengthened her commitment to helping women who are navigating incarceration, reentry, and single motherhood. Her journey has fueled her mission to create safe spaces, resources, and opportunities for women and families affected by the justice system.
Through Bloomin Sisters, Artisst Coleman is turning pain into purpose by helping women heal, grow, and bloom beyond their circumstances.
FOUNDER
During my incarceration, I encountered many young women whose stories forever changed my life. One moment in particular stands out. While we were being transported to court, a 17-year-old young woman said she hoped the judge would sentence her to at least three years. Her words brought me to tears—she was the same age as my oldest daughter.
When asked why, she explained that she had nowhere to go but back to the streets and drug houses. She shared her desire to be free from addiction and exploitation, and for the first time, prison felt safer than the world waiting outside. While many of us were praying to return home that day, she was praying for the opposite. I was sentenced that same day.
Throughout my incarceration, I met countless other young women with similar stories—women with no safe place to go, no support system, and no second chance. Those experiences planted a vision in my heart. I began to dream of creating a place where women could find safety, stability, and hope—a home rooted in love, understanding, and access to life-changing resources, free from judgment.
That vision became Bloomin’ Sisters—a place where women are empowered to heal, grow, and begin again.
